Blog: Chapter 7-9
The morning ritual of the Achuar and Huaorani indians reminds me of my own informal morning routine. Evey morning (or afternoon- I love my sleep) after I awake, I travel into my parent's room and crawl into bed with my mother. By this time, my father is at work and my mom is surrounded by our dog and cats. Currently, she is battling breast cancer or else she'd typically be up and about. Anyway, during this time she and I share our dreams from the previous night. That's really all there is to it. We don't analyze them, but try to out do each other with the oddities our minds fabricate. We both find it fascinating the random combination of past day's events that end up visiting us in sleep.
I found it interesting that the tribes consider dreams to be owned collectively. I think of some dreams I've had and how personal they can be. I mean, I don't share those dreams with anyone. As far as I am concerned, they are just for me. Afterall, they come from my mind. I wonder if (and pretty much assume) those tribes really share ALL their dreams. Even if they are super personal and/or embarrassing. I'd consider sharing personal dreams to be very unpleasant.
By Chapter 8, the aspect of science really struck me. This text is full of science! I guess the notion of altered states of consciousness interests me so that it's hard to wrap my mind around the quest for the secret force of the universe. Not to mention, I am an English major, so I try to steer clear of math and science as much as possible. I'll be honest, the talk of graphs and physics totally turned me off to this chapter. What have I learned? I totally dislike science- especially physics!
Chapter 9 confused me. I got lost in the details of the experiment. This is how I understood the details- Puthoff had to arrive at a random location and channel what he visualized back to Price, who was drawing the location. Price saw more than what was channeled and this amazed me. It is quite a phenomenon. Price saw objects which Puthoff did not, so Price must have been very in tune with the location and his state of consciousness.
