Ahh.. finally a book that I can comprehend a little better! Having pictures also helps me visualize things a little more clearly than The Field. In chapter 1, I liked the books definition/take on creativity. When we were asked in class what we thought creativity is or what it's made up of, I never really thought more in depth about the question. When I think of creativity, I think that it's stepping across the boundary line that one has created for themselves, and entering a whole new state of mind. I was intrigued as to how creativity was explained in the book. In a way, it gave me a different view of what creativity really is. Chapter 2 was the most interesting chapter to me because I never really heard of the Shamans, so that was something new for me. I found this quote interesting.. "Shamans are healers, seers, visionaries who have mastered death." (17) That was kind of food for thought for me, seeing how I knew really nothing about them. The whole magical flight idea with the Shamans was hard for me to believe. I know people have died and been brought back to life, but I don't think it necessarily means that they have had "magical flight,'"as in they passed through the upper world and were sent back down to earth to 'heal' people. To me, I viewed that as some people's bodys can withhold the shock of their systems (body) shutting down and some can't, so that's why when most people pass away, there's nothing that can be done about it.
Chapter 4 caught my attention a lot. I'm always interested in my dreams and how the most crazy insane ones come about. To me, I think that we all try to understand where our dreams come from so much that we end up not getting the right answer because we are trying too hard. Some people like to believe that a certain dream they have, has told their future or they have seen their future in their dreams. I don't really believe this.. in a way, I think dreams are about creativity. Now the ones where you are running from a murder, ehh not so much. We create our dreams, don't we? The whole OBE (out-of-body experience) just seems really creepy to me. I'm willing to be open minded about this topic, but I guess it's hard for me to believe this kind of stuff when it just seems so unreal. Granted, I've never been hypnotized or anything of that matter, but I'd be curious to test this out. Any takers?? :)
