I agree that the format of this book (the narrative style) is much easier to read.

The first chapters reminded me a lot of Karate Kid. With Mr. Miyagi? Yeah, that's the one. How don Juan instructs Castaneda in something that takes patience and time. Don Juan is also full of riddles and big on figuring out things for one's self. Castaneda is full of what don Juan considers futile questions, not unlike the Karate Kid. That's the connection I made. Or maybe I'm kinda crazy...

I was very interested in the Datura plant. I looked it up and found that it is indeed a very hallucinogenic plant. http://www.erowid.org/plants/datura/datura_stramonium.shtml (That is a link for a picture). There many different types, and its natural origin is unclear because of its high distribution. Although, I did find that the US and Mexico have the highest concentrations.

The Datura also reminded me of Devil's snare in Harry Potter. Just the name, though. It has a completely different purpose and meaning in the book than what Datura really is.
